Meet Maya Mysore '22, the UHP’s Newest Goldwater Scholar
UHP student Maya Mysore has earned a Goldwater Scholarship for the coming academic year. The prestigious, federally endowed award encourages students to pursue careers in the fields of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering. Mysore is among the 410 students awarded Goldwater Scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year, and one of two UC Davis recipients along with cell biology major Keely Ji.
Every year, the University Honors Program invites students to nominate UC Davis faculty for Outstanding Teaching and Faculty Mentorship Awards. These are our 2020 winners.
2020 Faculty Mentorship Award: Dr. Francis "Frank" McNally, Professor of Molecular and Cellular Biology
The UHP Faculty Mentorship Award is awarded to a UC Davis faculty member for providing outstanding mentorship to a UHP student. An outstanding mentor is one who is accessible, impactful, and has played a significant role in at least one UHP student's undergraduate career.
Every year, the University Honors Program awards students for implementing values of UHP: leadership, community service, and research & innovation. These are our 2020 winners.
2020 UHP Student Leadership Award: Thuy Vi "Vi" Nguyen, International Relations
The UHP Student Leadership Award identifies a graduating UHP student who is an emerging leader on campus or in the community. This student has demonstrated a commitment to all of the values of UHP including excellence, innovation, and personal growth, and are part of a new generation of leaders.
This year the University Honors Program is delighted to celebrate 111 graduates who have successfully completed the UHP curriculum. While we were unable to celebrate our graduating seniors in person as originally planned, we are so proud of everything they have accomplished in their time with UHP. This video was created in honor of our graduates’ accomplishments, and we look forward to hearing of their future achievements. Congratulations to the class of 2020!
UHP student Naomi Murray has been awarded a Goldwater Scholarship, the nation’s premier undergraduate award in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.
Murray is majoring in Ecology, Evolution, and Biodiversity, and plans to earn a PhD in Ecology. An active undergraduate researcher, she is already on the path to a career researching how trees affect community function and resilience, with the goal of minimizing the impacts of climate change.
Julie Cravotto, a fourth-year history and political science double major and a University Honors Program student, has recently been honored with the 2019 University Medal.
The University Medal recognizes the top graduating senior for academic excellence, a dedication to community service, and the continuation of their leadership contributions to society.
One of the most unique aspects of the University Honors Program is the innovative, discussion-based, honors courses. UHP students have the opportunity to engage with their professors and peers through these settings in a way that may not be possible in a large, lecture-style course. The 2019 Outstanding Teaching Award recognizes a professor nominated by students for being an inspirational and engaging part of the honors experience. This year it was received by Professor Anna Maria Busse Berger from the Music Department.
Every year the University Honors Program awards students for implementing the values of UHP: leadership, research and innovation, and community service. These are this year's winners.
Three of the seven recipients of the 2019 Norma J. Lang Prize are students in the University Honors Program.
This award recognizes students for extensively using library resources and services for their undergraduate research projects. The prize is funded by an endowment from the late UC Davis Professor Emerita of Botany, Norma J. Lang. The prizes are awarded within two different categories: Arts, Humanities, & Social Sciences and Science, Engineering, & Mathematics.
University Honors Program graduate Alexandra Greb
Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Class of '18
Alexandra Greb was recently awarded for her distinct research at UC Davis. She explored the effects of hallucinogenic drugs on neuron structure and function. She was a recipient of the 2018 Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. Greb also received a Provost’s Undergraduate Fellowship.
2018 UC Davis University Honors Program graduates Sammy Carey and Shelbie Condie both received second place in Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences for the 2018 Norma J. Lang Prize. This award, given to six students, is for stimulating research and the best use of resources at Peter J. Shields Library. Both seniors presented their research at the 2018 Undergraduate Research Conference at UC Davis, and the 2018 Western Regional Honors Conference at Chapman University.
